Made In Chelsea favourite Mark-Francis Vandelli's hopes of winning Channel 4 show The Jump are over after he was ruled out with a fractured ankle.

The jewellery supplies businessman was taken to hospital after falling in his second snow cross race on Sunday's show and cannot continue.

A Channel 4 spokeswoman said: "Whilst racing during the show on Sunday evening, Mark-Francis fell, injuring his ankle.

"He received immediate medical attention but sadly will not be able to continue in the competition due to an ankle fracture which has now been treated."

Former Westlife singer and fellow contestant Brian McFadden let slip that Mark-Francis had undergone surgery when he tweeted a now-deleted picture of the 26-year-old reality star on a hospital bed.

In his introduction video piece on the show's opening night, Mark-Francis joked that he made up for his lack of sporting prowess by always being the first to the champagne bar . However, even that might now be a struggle.

Mark-Francis' injury is the latest in a long list sustained on the show, with three other contestants already ruled out.

Competitor Beth Tweddle was airlifted to hospital and had surgery on her neck after a fall in training, while fellow Olympian Rebecca Adlington and Holby City actress Tina Hobley also pulled out after bad falls.

Linford Christie still hopes to continue with the show despite a hamstring injury. Actor Sid Owen and Brian McFadden also sustained relatively minor muscle injuries.

A Channel 4 spokesman told getwestlondon contestants were given rigorous training and were not allowed to take part if they were not deemed capable.

"The Jump is now in its third series and since launch 46 celebrities have taken part successfully," said the spokesman.

"Though it is a new course the events have been designed to be no more difficult than in previous years and all contributors have undertaken a rigorous training programme to prepare them for the show.

"All winter sports carry some element of risk but in light of the number of injuries this year, Channel 4 has asked the producers to review safety procedures again to further reduce the prospect of accident."
