A special screening of Bollywood film English Vinglish and a talk about Indian cinema will be held at Cineworld Feltham on Thursday (March 5).

The movie, funded by the National Lottery, stars the legendary actress Sridevi who makes a comeback in this touching drama about a woman, a housewife, and mother who lives in New York with her family and is shamed and teased by her children and husband by her inability to speak English.

She plays the role of Shashi who overcomes her insecurities and enrols in an English language class and the story follows her journey to becoming a confident woman in the bustling Big Apple.

Following the screening, Indian cinema expert for BBC London, Ashanti Omkar, also presenter of her own Sunday show on the BBC Asian Network, will take cinema-goers on a journey exploring the evolution of 100 years of Indian cinema including key stars and the internationally loved Bollywood brand.

This project is aimed at students and is part of a monthly screening of films to open young audiences up to new experiences and help them develop tastes for different types of cinema.

Every four weeks, a film viewing from a range of countries and genres will be put on to create a new generation of cinema goers in a new learning environment.

English Vinglish is a directorial debut by writer and director Gauri Shinde who was inspired by her own mother's experiences.
