Important scenes from the Oscar-winning The Theory of Everything were filmed at Brent Town Hall.

The Stephen Hawking biopic, which earned lead actor Eddie Redmayne an Oscar for his portrayal of the famous physicist, used the civic centre in Engineers Way, Wembley, in October 2013.

The crew transformed the council chamber into a French hospital operating theatre, and turned the Registrars room into hospital rehabilitation rooms overlooking the gardens.

The film, based on the memoirs of first wife Jayne Wilde Hawking, tells the story of the relationship between herself and the physicist Stephen Hawking, his diagnosis of motor neuron disease, and his success to become a world-renowned theoretical physicist.

It is not the first time the building has been used by film crews. Several other high-profile films and TV programmes were all filmed in Brent Civic Centre including Sky 1's medical drama Critical, which begun on Tuesday (February 24).

Councillor Muhammed Butt, Leader of Brent Council said: “We're delighted that Brent Civic Centre is the choice of both the big and small screen as a filming location.”

Kensington-born Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch was also nominated in the Best Actor category for his portrayal of Alan Turing in The Imitation Games.
