The eagerly awaited John Lewis Christmas advert is finally here and it marks the true beginning of the festive season.

Unlike what many people thought, the advert is not sad , but it definitely tugs on your heartstrings. There may be tears, but they will be happy tears.

If you love cute animals you are going to fall in love with Buster the dog and his furry pals.

The two-minute clip called "Buster The Boxer" begins with a dad carrying out last-minute preparations for his daughter's present - a trampoline - on Christmas Eve.

Braving the cold in the back garden, he painstakingly begins putting the huge gift together ready for his daughter on the big day.

As the night sky begins to settle, two foxes, a badger, a squirrel and a hedgehog venture out of hibernation to jump up and down on the trampoline whilst Buster the dog looks on from inside the house.

The little girl looking up at her gift on Christmas morning

The pet pooch is pretty miffed that the garden animals get to have all the fun as he watches on feeling left out. But he gets his time in the end, rushing past the little girl in the morning to bounce away!

The advert is set to a cover of Randy Crawford's 1980 jazz hit One Day I'll Fly Away by London electronic group Vaults, who recorded it at Abbey Road Studios in Westminster with a 70-strong choir and 66-piece orchestra.

John Lewis said it aimed for a sense of fun and magic in this year's campaign rather than its usual melancholy Christmas ads, after 2016 had proved to be "quite a year".

Craig Inglis, customer director at John Lewis, said: "2016 has certainly been quite a year, so we hope our advert will make people smile.

"It really embraces a sense of fun and magic, reminding everyone what it feels like to give the perfect gift at Christmas."

You can watch the TV premiere tonight, Thursday November 10, at 9.15pm on ITV1, during thriller series Paranoid.
