Millions of us read the book and now the movie is set for cinema release this Valentine's Day.

But, while we're fascinated with Fifty Shades of Grey and the idea of a steamy sex life, it seems that's as far as it goes, according to new research.

Durex research revealed we're twice as likely to go to bed with a good book than indulge in adventurous sex.

And while millions of us were enthralled by Christian Grey's sexual education of Anastasia Steele in EL James' novels, few of us put any of it into practice.

The Durex survey of couples across the UK found only 40% have ever acted out a fantasy with a partner, while it's been over a year since a third of us have tried anything new between the sheets.

But, Londoners are leading the way in bringing Fifty Shades of Grey to life.

In London, almost one in two have carried out their secret desires while the figure falls to 36% in the South East overall.

The capital is the place where couples are most likely to try new things in the bedroom, at 68% experimenting, but less than 1% say they have cuddled up to their partner in bed in the last month.
