A lantern parade and spectacular fire show will mark the switch-on of Hounslow's festive lights this Saturday (November 22).

The lights will be switched on at 4.30pm, after which children and young people will carry their handmade lanterns to Bell Square, at the west end of the High Street.

There audiences can enjoy live music and dance from 4X4 Bhangra in a fiery show, which will end with a giant bell being ignited.

The finale is a nod to the history of the site, beside The Bell pub, where a large bell was hung for many years.

The Winter Lights show has been put together by a team of unemployed youths who have been working with Watermans arts centre and outdoor arts experts Same Sky as part of the Creativity Works initiative to help them into employment, education or training.

Watermans director Jan Lennox said: "Winter Lights will be a wonderful event brightening up the dark winter with light, fire, processions and community involvement.

"The young people on Creativity Works will be integral to all aspects of delivering this project, giving them vital on-the-job experience."
