Yet again the first weekend in September delivers. There are no less than three major animal welfare events to choose from.
Let’s start with the event Little Mo will be most interested in - the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home Annual Reunion and Fun Day on Sunday September 4 (11am-4.30pm) taking place in Battersea Park.
If you’ve forgotten how stunning London parks are, this could be the weekend to remind yourself. Open to all, not just those who have rehomed a Battersea dog, the Reunion features a fun fair, stalls and dog show.
Little Mo might well hope that, next year, she might be attending as a previous Battersea dog rather than, as she is now, a current resident.

This Jack Russell Terrier came into the care of Battersea as she didn’t get on well with the family’s baby.
She loves water and adores digging in a paddling pool - the Reunion Day normally has lots of pools around.
She can be controlling around other dogs so will need owners willing to work on her socialisation. If you’re interested in homing Little Mo you can meet her at Battersea’s rehoming centre on Battersea Park Road or call 0843 509 4444.
Taking place the day before on Saturday September 3 (10am – 5pm) in the wonderful location of Primrose Hill is the Pup Aid Fun Dog Show.
Pup Aid was started by television vet Marc Abraham and is supported by celebrities such as Ricky Gervais.
Puppy campaign
It campaigns to bring an end to the cruel practice of puppy farming which is the mass commercial production of puppies purely for profit without any thought to the welfare of the puppies and their parents.
Usually kept in horrific conditions puppies, (who are often unwell), are frequently sent long distances across country for sale through pet shops, private dealers and websites.
If you are getting a puppy, ways to avoid supporting this trade include always asking to see the puppy with its mother and always making sure you see the puppy in its breeding environment. Alternatively, get a puppy from a rescue centre which is a registered charity.
Finally, the third event taking place that weekend is the National Animal Welfare Trust’s Summer Open Day on September 4 (11am-3pm) at Tylers Way, Watford by pass. Just to put the date in your diary now and I will give details next week.
