In a bid to inspire children to read more the summer reading challenge kicked off at Hounslow library on Saturday (July 11).

Around 120 children signed up to be part of the challenge and more than 250 young people made a pledge as part of a record breaking attempt.

This year's theme 'record breakers' has seen The Reading Agency and library network team up with Guinness World Records to set a new record during the two-month reading campaign.

The challenge runs until September 12 and is open to four to 11-year-olds at libraries across the borough.

Children are being encouraged to read six or more books of their choice during the summer holidays with rewards and prizes in return for completing the challenge.

Hounslow Libraries has also teamed up with accomplished storyteller, John Kirk, who will be performing three shows; The Sea Monsters, The Mad Hatter's Tea Party and Superlative Tales.
