Join in the family fun at Hayes Rugby Club on Saturday (August 8) for charity, in memory of a team member of the club.

The Rugby Ash 7's Tournament and Family Fun Day will raise money for Help for Heroes in memory of Ashley Critchfield, who sadly lost his life nine years ago outside the Hayes Rugby Club on Kinghill Avenue.

The event is being organised by Ashley's sister, Juli Critchfield, the manager of Hayes Rugby Club.

She said: “We started Ash 7's Tournament and charity fun day three years ago in remembrance to our little brother, Ashley, who was only 21 when he lost his life.

“He was and always will be a well-known and loved young man around the area and had so much more to give in life. He was a keen fisherman as well as a valid team player to Hayes Rugby Club and had just started to pursue a career within the fire brigade.”

The event has seen increased success year on year, firstly raising £1,800 for Scope and £2,000 for Make A Wish Foundation last year.

Ms Critchfield hopes to top this for our “brave troops” through the charity Help For Heroes.

Spectators can watch the rugby tournament or take part in one of many fun activities on offer for "every age and taste".

Children can enjoy unlimited turns on inflatables with a 'bouncy band' for £10. These include bouncy castles, a slide, castle, gladiator duel, bungee run and even sumo suits.

There will also be a BBQ, face-painting, a live band, a raffle, rodeo bull, special guest appearances from the Help for Heroes bears and more.

The fun day starts at 11am and entry is free. It runs through to an evening 'ska night' until 12 midnight.
