The month-long activities will kick-off with a free arts event, as part of the Thames Festival, where people can go along and help the local branch of the Embroiderers' Guild to make a textile picture inspired by the River Thames.

The workshop will be held at Isleworth Library on September 5 from 2pm-4.30pm.

Celebrations will continue with a trio of events to mark much-loved children's author Roald Dahl's 99th birthday on September 13, including a cinema screening of The Big Friendly Giant at the Paul Robeson Theatre at 2pm on September 5 (£1 members/£2 non-members); a free one-hour storytime session at Cranford library at 10.30am (September 12); and culminates in rhyme time and badge making activities for free at Heston library from 4.30pm-5.30pm (September 14).

In the same week, the seventh annual Chiswick book festival will get under way with the chance to meet up-and-coming authors, between September 10 and 14, while raising money for St Michael & All Angels Church and three reading and literacy charities.

During the book festival, picture book Brett Bear and the Cheeky Chipmunks by F M Clark and G K Sihat, will be launched on September 12, followed by storytime with the authors, book signing, facepainting and a drawing session.

On September 14, residents will have the chance to hear from rising literary star SJI Holliday and critically-acclaimed Louise Voss, who has penned several psychological thrillers, in a public discussion about their writing careers (£1.50 members/£3 non-members).

Food festivities to mark British Food Fortnight will bring the months activities to an end with healthy eating workshops at Feltham and Bedfont libraries.
