Fundraisers will be walking all day and all night at an annual charity community event set against the backdrop of a family fun day.

The Relay For Life sees participants completing laps of Bannister Sports Centre in Uxbridge Road, Harrow Weald - with each team having to ensure there is a member on the track at any one point during the race.

More than 300 people are expected to take part at what is the only Relay For Life in London. Visitors will be able to enjoy the fun day from 12.30pm on Saturday September 6 with stalls, line dancing, steam train rides, a bouncy castle and refreshment stands.

In addition, winners will be announced for a children's healthy eating poster competition that ran in schools during the summer term.

The Relay For Life itself begins at noon with a special lap of honour for cancer survivors, who are then followed by their carers, and finally a member from each team.

Mid Saturday evening is the most poignant part of the whole weekend with the realization of a Candle Of Hope Ceremony at 8pm.

Volunteers line the track with around 400 bags containing candles, each one dedicated to someone and decorated in their honor, and those in attendance get the time to reflect and remember their loved ones.

The candles remain on the side of the track for the entire night to light the way for the team members who are walking.

Teams are encouraged to fundraise for Cancer Research UK in whatever way they wish.
