ARTISTIC pupils gave up part of their summer holidays to paint a wall at their school.

But it wasn't just any old beige or off white - students at Haydon School in Wiltshire Lane,Northwood, had raised more than £1,000 themselves in order to finance the project, and a competition was run to see who could come up with a worthy design.

Toni Dignam, 17, was the winner, and her mural is now on the wall of a building which flanks the quad.

Head boy, Alex Henderson, 18, said: "In order to raise money for the painting we held a disco and got bands to play.

"We sold out on tickets and everyone who went enjoyed it, and from that we raised the money we needed."
