ART fans have just one week to catch an exhibition of up-and-coming young artists at a multi-disciplinary West Harrow gallery.

The show, Preview Three Views, runs from Wednesday, June 2 until Wednesday, June 9 at The Usurp Art Gallery and Studios in Vaughan Road, which will be changing its opening hours to noon to 8pm, especially for those seven days.

Celebrating the eclectic nature of the support team who assist the collective that runs the gallery, the exhibition features works by Aoife Twomey, Julie London and Natalie Leer, including experimental sculpture, textiles and digital imagery, as well as the traditional artistic forms.

Curator and artist, Poulomi Desai, said: "Work-wise it's going to be a bit experimental. This is the premiere exhibition for the three of them.

"One of the artists, Natalie, 23, uses a lot of ultraviolet paint and she's painting quite an intricate design and the other artist, Aoife, is a textile artist using lots of materials."

She added: "People who are curious about the new energy that's here should come along, as well as young people, to see what is possible because in Harrow they are likely to have not had much experience of organising an exhibition, writing a press release and publicising the event.

"We also want people who want to create their own work. We have found since the gallery opened there's such a large amount of talent here.

"Nicola, Aoife and Julie came together because they had seen Usurp's previous activities and projects on the website."

In addition, three live events take place at the gallery during the course of the week, beginning with the launch on June 2 from 6.30pm to 9.30pm.

It will feature a mishmash of broken beat music provided by French DJs BeK and WhiteRatBeat, complemented by performance poetry and vocals from Jaspreet Kaur and a video projection by the fantastic Atomic Lip founder, Steve Tasane. There will also be a performance from French saxophonist Lora.

Two days later, Open Mouths on June 4, from 6pm to 8pm, allows professional poets and local wordsmiths to step up to the mic to read their work.

The three volunteer artists behind Preview Three Views then show off an ongoing collaboration in the form of Shop Bought, Custom Made which can be described as an evolving performance piece, complete with musical accompaniment, in which a shop window mannequin will be painted, customised, dismantled and rebuilt.

This is on display between 1pm and 3pm on June 5. * For more information please see: www.usurp.org.uk .
