Springtime is on its way, just in time for a fantastic production visiting Richmond Theatre about the life of “the man what brought us the sunshine” – Eric Morecambe.

As one half of Britain’s most popular double act ever, Morecambe’s work has been kept alive and introduced to a new generation of fans through numerous tribute programmes, TV re-runs and DVD releases. Now to mark the thirtieth anniversary of his death, a brand new production of the Olivier award-winning West End play that celebrates his life embarks on a major national tour.

Bob Golding  reprises his Olivier Award-nominated performance as the man who played all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order in  Morecambe , a moving and gloriously funny portrait of Eric’s life. In the original production, Golding won himself an army of admirers for his extraordinary performance, including some of the country’s favourite comedians who were bowled over by the actor’s incredible likeness to the man himself; many of these were Eric’s contemporaries and friends:

‘Spectacularly wonderful, Bob Golding has hit the bullseye with this stunning portrayal of Eric’  - Ronnie Corbett

‘A fantastic play...amazing. Bob Golding was spookily brilliant as Eric’  - Ant and Dec

‘Bob Golding is amazing as Morecambe...Classic.’  – Jimmy Carr

‘Superb isn’t the word. I’ll have to think of something better. Not a wrong note’  – Barry Cryer

Eric’s son  Gary Morecambe , says: "Bob is a family friend, and never fails to astonish us with his knowledge and understanding of my father. On stage, his performance captures the spirit of Eric, and cleverly delivers the important bits of his story in a whistle-stop tour of his life that is quite astounding to behold. I never get bored watching him in full 'Eric' flow, and am delighted to be a small part of the team bringing back this unique performance to theatres around the country."

Morecambe  comes to Richmond Theatre for a one night Gala Performance to launch the UK tour on  Sunday 30 March at 7.30pm .
