The best that art has to offer in Hammersmith and Fulham will be showcased when a special festival returns in June.

The HF ArtsFest is back after its inaugural event last year and running from June 8-14.

It will include music, dance, theatre, photography, poetry and much more in a week crammed with exciting and eye-opening art.

Cathy Robertson is the festival chairman and hopes the return of the event will mean it becomes a regular date in the calendar.

She said: “This was a brand new idea launched last year and we got a really good response. Now the objective is to make it an annual celebration of the art and what Hammersmith and Fulham has to offer.

“We want to provide a platform for all the arts community to celebrate what’s happening and available in the borough.”

Among the many, many highlights this year will be a visual art installation at Westfield shopping centre, comedy at The Lyric, in Lyric Square, Indian dancing at the Bhavan Centre and circus group Albert & Friends.

Ms Robertson said: “We have pillars like Bush Theatre, Bush Hall, Lyric and Riverside studio but there’s other things around it. This is supporting more emerging artists and art groups that have been there a long time, they are a big part of the borough and a big part of ArtsFest.”

Last year saw 100 events and 250 artists take part and with acts and events still being added to this year’s line-up those figures are expected to be matched again at the very least.

Ms Robertson said promoting the arts would raise awareness among people living in the area: “We’re really raising interest to all residents in the borough who might not realise what’s on on their doorstep and what’s happening here before heading out to the West End.”

And she praised the work of other volunteers who are helping put on the event, adding: “We are all passionate about the arts in one way or another, that’s why we’re all behind it.

“We want the area to become a cultural destination, we want to promote the arts.”

Sponsors for the event include Westfield and Hammersmith & Fulham Council.
