An experimental play about Israeli-Palestinian relations is coming to west London for one-night only following a successful crowd-funding campaign.

The Hounslow-Ramallah Twinning Association (HRTA) raised £1,998 - £50 above its target on the Kickstarter website - to present the allegorical drama 48 Minutes for Palestine at the Paul Robeson Theatre in Hounslow this June.

The mission - backed by the acclaimed playwright Caryl Churchill, whose latest work is currently playing at the National Theatre - received a total of 25 pledges.

Aun Qurashi, secretary of HRTA, which was formed in 2010 to foster links between the two regions, said: "Well done! Congratulations! And thank you from HRTA's theatre project team to everyone who supported the crowd-funding campaign for this innovative project! And that's my quota of exclamation marks for the year used up."

He said work would now begin to organise the free performance on June 15 and to ensure as "big and diverse" an audience as possible.

The play, created by the non-profit Ramallah theatre company ASHTAR Theatre, relies entirely on movement and music to tell the story of a power struggle between a woman and the disheveled stranger who walks into her house one day.

Hounslow has been twinned with Ramallah, a small city just north of Jerusalem, since 1988. The borough is also twinned with Lahore, in Pakistan, Russia's Leningradsky District and Issy-les-Moulineaux, in France.
