West End musical Aladdin will see a new leading man take to the stage in June.

Matthew Croke will step into the shoes of Disney's favourite "street rat" on Monday, June 5, at the Prince Edward Theatre.

The role of Aladdin will be the actor's debut in a leading role in the West End.

He said: "I started performing when I was five and believe it or not, Aladdin is an absolute dream.

"I used to run home from school and put the video and just watch it everyday.

"I used to dream about them making it into a musical in the West End because even at the age I knew I wanted to perform.

"To get that call and go 'I'm going to be Aladdin is a dream come true.'"

He added: "I've understudied a lot of leading roles but, this is the first time I can call it my own.

"I cant wait to get on that carpet."

The Sheffield actor has previously starred in Annie Get Your Gun (Crucible Theatre), Singin’ in the Rain (UK Tour), Funny Girl (Menier Chocolate Factory), Shall We Dance (Sadler’s Wells), A Chorus Line (Crucible Theatre) and West Side Story (UK & Ireland tour).

The new musical based on the classic Academy Award-winning animated film will have its first birthday in the West End on June 15.

Jade Ewen and Trevor Dion Nicholas will continue in their roles of Jasmine and Genie respectively.
