Brentford were promoted to the Championship after Alan Judge's first-half penalty earned them victory over Preston on Friday.

The Irishman held his nerve from the spot to fire the Bees into the second tier for the first time since 1993 after rivals Leyton Orient and Rotherham both slipped up.

However, with the Millers' game at Wolves kicking off 10 minutes late, Brentford's players had to endure a nervy wait before promotion was finally confirmed.

"When I came here I just wanted to play games and try to contribute in some way, so to score the goal that got us promoted is unbelievable," said Judge afterwards.

"It was the best moment of my career. I've captained Ireland at Under-21 level, which was a great honour, but to get a club promoted is great."

Striker Marcello Trotta added: “It’s an amazing feeling. I’m so happy and it’s unbelievable to be promoted. I felt I owed something to Brentford, that’s why I decided to come back after what happened last year."
