Ealing Trailfinders had queues at the contract table this week as they build a top team for next season.

The National One champions are determined to avoid 2013-14's disaster when they plummeted straight back from whence they came.

In order to stop the yo-yo at the top, Ealing added five more new faces to go with Tom Bliss joining from Wasps on loan the week before, and then re-signed a heap more.

New face: George Porter

Second row Nathan Hannay joins from Yorkshire Carnegie, for whom he played since 2013 featuring 31 times in two seasons and scoring two tries, while Iain Grieve will beef up the back row after he made the switch from Plymouth Albion.

Grieve was delighted to throw his weight behind the Trailfinders wheel.

“After speaking with coach Ben Ward, looking around the club and seeing what great facilities they have I knew with certainty that I wanted to be part of it,” he said.

Joe Munro (centre), props George Porter and Michael Holford have all joined from Nottingham, while front-rowers Matt Thompson, Alex Penny and Will Davis and centre Tom Wheatcroft extended their stay at Vallis Way

Hooker Thompson was a late addition to Ward’s side and he played six matches as the team wrapped up the National One title.

His 200-match experience for Newcastle Falcons in the Premiership as well as England Saxons appearances will be crucial to the club’s hopes of establishing themselves in the Championship.

“My agent asked me how I would feel about joining Ealing Trailfinders and after a bit of thinking I jumped at the opportunity to assist with their promotion ambitions,” Thompson added.

Brothers Carwyn and Llewelyn Jones, Alex Bradley, and double award winners Arthur Ellis and Alex Walker as well as long-time servant Karl Gibson all penned their name to new deals.
