Ealing Trailfinders have scored a hat-trick by adding David Lyons, Ryan Edwards and Matt Thompson to a side already top of National League One.
The extra boost in playing choices for coach Ben Ward hammers home the task facing others trying to dislodge the west Londoners from their lofty perch.
Multi-talented Lyons joins from London Irish. The second row previously played for Worcester Warriors, and also rowed at the U23 World Championships and World Student Games as well as playing basketball to national level.
“I’ve been at London Irish for most of the season and my time there came to an end,” Lyons said. “A couple of guys there are involved with the coaching here and that’s how it came around.
Matt Thompson is a proven Premiership performer, won the Churchill Cup with England in 2007, and also represented the Barbarians.
The hooker began with Newcastle Falcons and scored 14 tries in 279 matches at Kingston Park. Recently he featured for Blaydon and Darlington Mowden Park for whom he featured against Ealing last November.
Ryan Edwards has signed on loan from Greene King IPA Championship side Bristol. The wing had played four times for Andy Robinson’s side this season and has scored two tries.
“Trailfinders are looking for promotion and there is the chance for some game time, so I thought it would be a super option to come down,” Edwards said.
“It is great that Ealing Trailfinders has been able to add three quality signings at a crucial stage of the season,” added Ward. “All three will bring experience, quality and a boost to the side for the run in to the end of the season.”
