Roger Coombs' debut as London Nigerian coach came within a whisker of producing the club's first silverware in five years.
The Shepherd's Bush club got to the final of the Interdean Sevens tournament at Wasps training ground in Acton last week, but succumbed to a former London Scottish group of players called The Meddlers.
The 20-10 defeat was in contrast to the slick way Nigerians had waltzed past
the opposition in four other games producing 20 tries while conceding just two.
Coach Coombs, who comes to the London North Three club with experience of club rugby all over the world, was particularly heartened by the debuts of Rob Hartley and Luke Davids in the 20-team competition.
The pair notched a boatload of tries with Davids grabbing a hat-trick in the semi-final. Segun 'Marvel' Olowu's debut for Ns in the deep was a major reason for the stingy defence.
