London Two (North) leaders Staines started the new year with a bang as they hammered sorry Welwyn 21-0 on Saturday.

The Christmas break coupled with last week's postponement meant the visitors hadn't played for nearly a month.

But it didn't stop captain Tom Cleary breaking through the Welwyn defence to give them a first-half lead.

Staines turned up the heat after the break, and the relentless pressure finally told on a tiring home pack.

A well-worked move brought Andy Turner into play and he breached the defensive line to score under the posts, which was converted by Chris Wells.

Jason Lee clinched the win 16 minutes from time, while Wells added two more with the boot as they ran out comfortable winners.
