Chiswick RFC director of rugby Adrian Hoile was naturally ecstatic after his side won promotion London One.

The Dukes Meadow side overcame Diss by 16 points to 13 with a last minute penalty from Simon Hallett to spark wild scenes in Norfolk.

Hoile said: “I felt we were the better team and it'd have been a great shame if we hadn't got the result. We're just ecstatic for the club and get to London One.

“It had to be Hallett. He’s a very special player for us and he runs our minis.

“You wouldn’t give the ball to anyone else and he put it through the middle, no problem. We’re very lucky to have him. Pressure doesn’t bother him.”

The Chiswick boss admitted it was nervy times on the sidelines but emotion poured out once the final whistle blew.

He added: “It wasn't pleasant on the sidelines. The main thing for me and the coaching team is we had to keep calm and keep it bottled in.

“At full time there were 23 blokes crying on the pitch. Paul Wilson joined us this year and has been fantastic.

“His commitment has been fantastic. Shane Donaldson has been with the club for 25 years as player, club captain – it was a really nice moment for him. For us to go up, it means everything to him.”

Hoile's task now is to make the changes needed to step up to London One and has been receiving interest from players and coaches already.

He added: “In terms of next season, we have extra home fixtures and we'll probably see 50 odd more.

“We'll attract new players and new supporters. You'll generate finances and attention. It's like the Conference South.

“We'll need new players. We've got a few retirements in our side which is sad. We'll have some decisions to make because our current squad is very good but to cut it at the next level, we'll need to add to that.

“I've had emails from players and coaches who are looking to join us. It's also new territory as I don't think anyone has contacted us to offer their services.

“We have a vision for the costing, players we need to recruit and help them without paying them. We're as ready as we can be.”
