Andrew Smart is gearing up for what could be a special day in Harrow’s history, after watching his side move within touching distance of the London Three North West title this week.

The club chairman is starting to believe the crown is within reach after Harrow dominated Welwyn on Saturday to win the match 41-20 and secure a seven-try bonus-point victory at Grove Field.

It was a superb result, which saw Smart’s team go eight points clear at the top of the table, ahead of Grasshoppers and Old Merchant Taylors’, as they head into the final two matches of the season.

Victory in Watford this weekend against a Fullerians side with nothing to play for would seal promotion and the title for a fifth successive term, taking Harrow into uncharted territory, and Smart this week rallied the troops for one last push.

He said: “I can’t wait for next week. A win and this team will take the club to the highest level we have been.

“Please come and support them for what could be a special day in our history.

“There is nothing to be taken for granted, but the rewards are great and I hear a whisper that the skipper Dave West might be back. That will be good as he has been missed.”

Christian Witney, Gary Conroy, Kit Smith Ryan Owens, Nick Portch, Hylan Proctor and Adam West got the tries to secure the crucial bonus point over Welwyn at the weekend in what Smart saw as a vastly improved performance from the laboured win over Stevenage.

He added: “It was by no means flawless, but this was a much better performance than of late, with far more accuracy and passing than the backs have produced for a long time and the support play of the whole team was of a high quality.

“The back row once again were exceptional, both in work rate and in their continuity between the forwards and backs, and Rob Franklin, whose return was the catalyst for the performance, was a deserved man of the match.”
