London Broncos entertain last year’s Grand Finalists Warrington Wolves on Sunday at the Hive but are still looking for their first Super League win, writes Dave Lawrenson.

The Broncos turned in their best performance to date at Bradford on Sunday yet still lost 25-12.

However, they dominated large parts of the game and trailed by just six points with five minutes remaining before a late scoring burst clinched it for the Bulls.

Head coach Tony Rea called it a ‘gutsy performance’ with injuries making life even more difficult for his side.

Jordan Atkins pulled out before the game with a suspected broken hand sustained the day before and they lost full-back Nesiasi Mataitonga and centre Mason Caton-Brown in the early stages of the game.

“It was an outrageously gutsy performance, given where we are at,” said Rea. “Plenty of teams would have got beaten by 50 out there today.

“We had no subs left, lost three outside backs and had four injuries during the first half, so it was a big ask and a huge challenge in adversity.

“It was great to still be in it at the back end of the game and at one point I thought we were going to get the job done.”

Australian scrum-half Josh Drinkwater made an impressive debut having arrived in north London just days before the game.

Warrington have struggled to find their best form and their first win of the new campaign, an 18-16 victory over Hull FC, was a close run thing, which will give the Broncos hope of causing an upset.
