If the London Broncos are to have a realistic chance of avoiding relegation then winning at Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Friday would be a very good start.

Wakefield lie one place above the relegation zone with eight points. The Broncos have none, so victory at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium would represent a significant result in more ways than one.

Defeat would mean they would have to win five of their last 12 fixtures just to gain parity, assuming the Wildcats don’t win any more games.

Both sides have had a weekend off due to the Challenge Cup quarter-finals but significantly Wakefield parted company with their coach, Richard Agar, who had been with the club for three years, and installed assistant coach James Webster in his place.

This will be Webster’s first game in charge of the squad and they have made an addition to their squad, taking half-back Tim Smith on loan from Salford until the end of the season.

Smith was a key member of the Wakefield squad for two years before signing for Salford at the end of last season.

The Broncos have benefited from their break with only Kieran Dixon and Jordan Atkins unavailable for selection.

Head coach Joe Grima said: “It’s been good just to get away from work, not only for the players but the staff as well, just to re-fresh and re-charge the batteries. I think it’s come at a really, really good time.

“Wakefield have a new coach and they are going to be very difficult to play; they’re getting some really good players back.

"Webby (James Webster) has been there for quite some time and you’re always wary after a team changes a coach. We’re not going to change too much and we’re just worried about us, we’re not terribly worried about Wakefield.”
