Chiswick RFC know that a win of any kind against Tabard on Saturday will secure a play-off contest against Diss, writes Tom Moore.

The Dukes Meadow side have had a successful season so far, but failure to beat their mid-table opponents will more than likely see them miss out on the play-offs.

And director of rugby Adrian Hoile knows his side face a tough test on Saturday.

He said: “I think for a start it’ll be tough for us. Tabard didn’t start the season well but have come on strong.

“It’s about keeping our focus and securing our second place. All we have to do is win. We’re thinking about finishing well and if we do we’ll make the play-off spot.”

Despite being beaten Intermediate Cup SE finalists, the season will be viewed as a failure if Chiswick do not secure second spot and Hoile is slightly rueful about missing out on top spot, which went to Harrow.

He added: “I think we’ll be kicking ourselves about the two draws and maybe one or two of the losses as we could have been champions. Due to availability and the way the opposition have played, we’re not. At the end of the season, we’ll blow our cheeks out after a very good season for the club, so that’s good for us.”

Whatever happens though, the director of rugby is delighted with the development of his side over the season.

Hoile said: “We’ve been building gradually and have got some blocks in place for next season. We’ll push on, whatever league we’re in.

“If we don’t make it we’re going to push on as a club because you die otherwise.

“This is as close as we’ve ever been, so if we don’t take our chance we’ll be massively disappointed.”

In London NW 3, Grasshoppers close their season with a trip to Belsize Park before their Middlesex Cup final contest.

In Herts/Middlesex 1, Feltham must beat Haringey Rhinos to avoid finishing the season in last place.
