Ealing Trailfinders coach Mike Cudmore believes he has gathered a strong enough squad to mount a serious promotion bid this season, writes Yann Tear.
The National Three side have recruited 14 new players - several with Premiership experience at clubs such as London Wasps, Northampton, London Irish, and Leeds.
It suggests the club have not begun to touch the limit of their ambitions. They were very competitive last season and not far off the top two places, but Cudmore is far from satisfied with how the season panned out.
"After reviewing the season, it was clear that we could and should have finished with more points and possibly been in a position to challenge for a playoff spot," Ealing's coach said.
"Our goal this season is to be consistent in our performances, finish higher than last season and in doing so challenge for promotion to National Two.
"This will not be easy in a very competitive league but we have recruited strongly, bringing in players with Premiership and National One experience.
"We have also signed young players who will be developed and nurtured into regular firstteam players. We are looking forward to a competitive and successful season."
The new recruits include fullback or wing Lee Best, who has played for Bath and Worcester and is a former Heineken Cup winner.
He said: "Ealing Trailfinders is obviously a club of the future, with facilities most Premiership clubs would envy, a great backroom staff that keeps the club running smoothly and a fantastic group of boys interested in winning at all costs with an attractive brand of rugby. I'm looking forward to being part of another successful promotion campaign."
Back rower Mark Lock, who played for Leeds in the Premiership last season said: "Having finished my full-time rugby career, I wanted to go to a local club that's ambitious, professional and talented.
"Rob Hoadley [Ealing's backs coach] assured me Ealing was all this and by the end of my first week, I realised he was right."
