Super South West London Chargers moved one step closer to retaining the Harry Jepson Trophy with a 36-6 win over South East champions Medway Dragons at Gillingham on Saturday.

Kicking off the with a strong wind at their backs but playing up a considerable slope, the Chiswick side bombed several early chances and had two tries disallowed, but eventually opened their account after 17 minutes with a Josh Reid try which Leon Blacker converted.

Just before half-time, Joe Briggs grabbed another, with Blacker making it 12-0 with the conversion, and Briggs got his second early in the second half.

Five minutes later, Dan Williams crossed, with Blacker adding the conversion for a 22-0 lead, before the home side got their first points on the board with a converted try, but then began to suffer a spate of injuries.

The Chargers took advantage to dominate the final quarter, with further tries from Nath Brown and Joe Purnell before Briggs completed his hat-trick, Blacker converting one.

And so the Chargers' season, which began on February 1 with a Challenge Cup tie, rumbles on, ans they face Jarrow Vikings this Saturday in Sheffield, where they will attempt to become the first club to win back-to-back Harry Jepson Trophies in the competition’s 17-year history.
