Herts/Middlesex Division Two

Hillingdon Abbots 62

Hendon 14

Hilingdon Abbots cruised to another crushing victory to seal the league title and earn promotion to Herts/Middlesex Division One.

Automatic promotion was confirmed for the side with two games to spare as they demolished visitors Hendon 62-14 at the weekend.

Hendon planned to outperform their hosts with a heavier pack, but the decision backfired as they spent the first half-hour of the game camped out in their own half.

Abbots put their foot on the gas from the off and earned their first penalty with just seconds on the clock, fly-half Elliot Wake (pictured) hit the upright, but atoned eight minutes later with a penalty to score his side’s first points.

Centre Dave Francis crossed the whitewash for the first try of the match before Wake made the most of an interception to run 50 yards and score his first of the game.

The visitors switched their game plan and went all out attack, only to leave gaps in their defensive line which Kyle Buckingham took advantage of to score his first of two, Wake added another six points to give the home side a 24-0 lead at half time.

Hendon had a brief renaissance scoring a converted try before Wake scored another penalty and man of the match Hayden Elliot flew down the wing to score and secure the bonus point.

Hendon were awarded a second try and successful conversion but the outcome was never in dispute as further tries from Brad Buckingham, Elliot, Francis, Kyle Buckingham and a further 10 points from Wake earned the league leaders a well deserved victory.

Abbots now have three weeks off to celebrate their league title before they face Saracen Amateurs at home.

In London One North, Ruislip narrowly lost at home 27-24 to Letchworth Garden City and sit ninth in the league. Next week they will travel to North Walsham.

Old Merchant Taylors’ lost for the third week in a row as they went down 31-15 to Harpenden in London Two North West and will face Chiswick on the road next week.

Ickenham were edged out 18-17 on the road to Mill Hill, while Uxbridge were dispatched 26-0 at home to Old Isleworthians.
