Canterbury Shield Division Two

Dorking II 32 - 5 Hammersmith and Fulham II

Hammers twos slumped to a crushing defeat - and worse still the Hurlingham Park side have yet to register a win in 11 attempts.

They had been hoping to break their duck after coming close against Chichester and Westcombe Park last time out.

H&F stayed in touching distance of the home side after electing to play the first half uphill and into a heavy wind. But Dorking kicked on from their 12-0 half-time lead and turned the screw running away with the game.

Unsurprisingly, Hammers prop up the rest of the league but are in touching distance of London Irish Wanderers just above them.

Captain Julien Draper said: "It's disappointing. We had been building towards our first league win, but unfortunately we just didn't turn up in the second half today and paid the price."

Hammers suffered a string of injuries before the half-hour mark, with fly-half Sean Walsh, centre Alex Woodcock and wing Will Buchanan all limping off. The changes rocked the team and Hammers never hit their stride in the second half, conceding four soft tries. Winger Tony Bryant's solo score late on was little consolation for the visitors, despite a good game from wing Adam Cryar.

H&F women also lost this weekend, going down 17-5 at home to Romford as they crashed out of the Intermediate Plate.

Hammers 1st XV were handed a walkover in the Middlesex Cup against Staines, but are back in action in the league this Saturday against Tabard.
