London Broncos must sort out their defending on the fringes if they are to start winning games, writes David Lawrenson.

That’s the view of assistant coach Joe Grima after the Broncos were knocked out the Challenge Cup by Catalan Dragons in Perpignan.

They put 24 points past the Dragons in their cup clash but conceded 40.

Broncos are still seeking that morale-boosting first win and Grima says they are showing signs of gelling as a team.

He added: “It’s not often in Rugby League that you will score 24 points and get beat, but that’s probably where the London Broncos are at the moment

“The majority of the Catalan tries were scored on our edges or through broken play. Any coach will tell you, from under-eights up, that it’s better to concede tries out there than in the middle.

“Over the coming weeks we have to get our edges as solid as our middles.”

Broncos return to Super League action tomorrow night (Friday) at Wigan Warriors.

The Warriors were double winners last season, but are not quite the force they were given the loss of several key players including star full-back Sam Tomkins.

However, they present a formidable challenge, particularly at the DW Stadium.

The Broncos could be facing two of their former team mates, Tony Clubb and Dan Sarginson, players who came up through the London ranks and moved to Wigan in the close season.
