Harrow tennis youngsters enjoyed a successful weekend at the Balfour Beatty London Youth Games by making it through the qualifying rounds at Redbridge Leisure Centre to next month’s finals.

The borough have qualified for the finals, which will take place at the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace on July 5, where Europe’s largest annual youth sports event will conclude for 2014.

They will be looking to get into a medal position after just missing out in 2013.

Manager Nikita Shah said: “They all played a brilliant match. Each and every player contributed and did what they were told to do, and it’s fantastic. We have been training on a weekly basis for two hours each, getting the team ready for the qualifiers.

“We came fourth last year. Aiming to better it if we can. They are all at different schools. We had trials over a period of 2 weeks and we had a turnout of 60 children and from there we selected the teams.”

Meanwhile, Hounslow’s youngsters also enjoyed a successful weekend at the London Youth Games by making it through the hockey qualifying rounds.

Both the male and female teams qualified for the finals, which will take place at the National Sports Centre, Crystal Palace on 5-6 July, where Europe’s largest annual youth sports event will conclude for 2014.
