UXBRIDGE manager Tony Choules believes striker Matt Woods has finally rediscovered his best form at Honeycroft.

Woods (pictured) came to the club with a big reputation following his goalscoring exploits at AFC Hayes and he made a good impression in his first campaign with the Reds.

But his second season stalled and he was granted a leave of absence by the club last November as he needed time away from football to sort out some personal matters.

Woods did not waste any time finding his shooting boots this term though as he bagged four goals in Uxbridge’s opening two games, including a hat-trick in the 5-1 thrashing of Stotfold.

He was on target again as Uxbridge crashed out of the FA Cup on Saturday, going down 3-2 at home to Barton Rovers.

Choules reckons his main attacking weapon is back to his lethal best.

“You can’t criticise the boy because he works his socks off,” Choules said. “He has an arsenal that not many strikers have got. He doesn’t score mundane goals, he will score you good goals and that’s down to his work rate.

“Matty will be the first one to tell you that his touch isn’t the greatest but that’s a minute chink in his armour.”

Far from resting on his laurels, former AFC Hayes frontman Woods is always looking to improve and Choules says the striker is always searching for the extra one per cent. He’s his own worst critic and sometimes he criticises himself unjustly,” he added. “I’ve told him that if I thought for one minute that he wasn’t doing it then I’d tell him.”

Uxbridge were last night (Tuesday) due to host neighbours Northwood, who were not in action on Saturday.
