Andy Murray has been installed as the favourite for the Wimbledon title after a remarkable day at the All England Club.

The British No 1 is now the highest remaining seed for the men’s singles crown after Novak Djokovic made a shock exit on Saturday afternoon.

Reigning champion Djokovic was beaten in four sets by American Sam Querrey to end his hopes of winning all four majors in a year.

There was no slip ups from Murray though as he made it safely through to the last 16 after beating Australian John Millman 6-3 7-5 6-2 on Centre Court.

He will now face bad-boy Aussie, Nick Kyrgios, or Spain's Feliciano Lopez in round four on Monday in south west London.

A stunned Djokovic said of his defeat: “It's disappointing, of course, losing at a Grand Slam hurts more than any other tournament. There is no doubt about that.

“Congratulation to Sam. He played a terrific match. He serves very well, as he usually does. I think that part of his game was brutal today.

“He made a lot of free points with the first serve. Just well done. He just overpowered me.

“Well, I believe in positive things in life. I managed to win four Grand Slams in a row ‑ two different seasons, though. I want to try to focus on that rather than on failure.”

Scottish star Murray is now the clear favourite to win his second SW19 title having lost consecutive Grand Slam finals at the Australian Open and French Open.

He's through! Andy Murray of Great Britain celebrates victory

It is Djokovic's first loss at Wimbledon in 19 matches and first Grand Slam loss in 31 as the 12-time Slam winner was looking to further enhance his legacy.

Murray , reacting to the news of Djokovic’s exit, said: "I need to reach the final for that result to have any bearing on my performance.

"I have tough guys left in my half of the draw, especially the next round. Novak’s run has been amazing. He almost found a way to get back into that one.

"What he’s done in the last 12 to 18 months, I don’t think we’ll see for a long long time. It's unfortunate for him but it’s an amazing run he’s been on.

"Right now everyone expects Novak to win every match he plays.

“It’s normal to have one or two matches where you’re not at your best and your opponent plays a great match.

“It’s impossible to win every single match that you play in every tournament."
