Andy Murray is through to the quarter-finals at Wimbledon for the eighth successive year but admits he found it tough against Ivo Karlovic.

The British No 1 was cruising after taking the opening two sets 7-6, 6-4 but the giant Croatian ensured he didn’t have it all his own way by securing the third 7-5.

However, Murray recovered his composure to win 6-4 in the fourth on Centre Court to book his spot in the last eight at SW19.

He said: “I came up with some good lobs and passing shots. I managed to keep him low and use the angles a little bit more.

“It was an incredibly difficult match. Mentally it was quite tiring because you need to focus on every single point and be ready when the chances come.

“You don’t want to give him free points but if you leave the ball short he comes forward and takes chances. It’s difficult to get the balance right.

“I managed to get through and that’s what I wanted from today. It was about trying to get through. I passed well and made it difficult for him.”

Vasek Pospisil awaits Murray after seeing off Viktor Troicki in his match.

Murray has already beaten his next opponent twice this year but was, as always, adopting a cautious approach as he looks to regain his Wimbledon crown.

He added: "It's a tough match for me next round. He's playing my brother in the doubles right now.

“He had a close one with James Ward in the previous round, and came back from two sets to love down today. He'll be feeling good about his game, and it sits well with the grass."
