Andy Murray admitted he had 'a bad day at the office' in his post match press conference.

The defending champion was beaten in straight sets by number 11 seed Grigor Dimitrov in the quarter-finals on Centre Court on Wednesday.

He said: "I should have done a better job at the start of the match. He was the better player start to finish. Whatever tactics I used I didn't execute them.

"There were too many unforced errors. It was a tough day all round. I don't feel that pressure had anything to do with it. The toughest loss of my career was losing the 2012 final here.

"I need to have a think about all the things I need to improve. The younger guys are becoming more mature. Dimitrov moves well and is a good athlete. He has variety in his game. He has made some big improvements in the last 12 to 18 months.

"The only way to play better is to work hard and become physically better. I need to work harder than I have in the last 12 months.

"I don't feel old. I still played some very good tennis this year. It was disappointing to end like. that. Amelie (Mauresmo) and I will sit down and chat in a few days. I have really enjoyed the last couple of weeks. It's been fun.

"You have bad days as an athlete. I couldn't get my legs in the right place. But I look back at the last two years at Wimbledon very fondly."

As he walked off Centre Court, Murray reminded Dimitrov to bow to the Royal Box which contained the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

Unlike Rafael Nadal who plans to spend a few days on the beach, Murray will have a think and then start to practice for the US season.

He thanked the British public for their support and added: "I was nervous before my first match this year but not Today. It' s a high skill sport. If you're timing is slightly off it makes a difference. The ball does not feel as good on the racket as it did earlier."
