It was a dramatic day on the streets of London as some of the world's greatest long-distance runners took part in the city's marathon.

USA's Joshua George claimed victory in the men's wheelchair race ahead of Great Britain's David Weir who was going for his seventh win in London.

Everyone predicted a battle between Weir and last year's winner Marcel Hug, from Switzerland, to take it to the line but Hug lost out on a top three finish after a puncture set him back in the pack.

In the women's wheelchair race, favourite Tatyana McFadden, from the USA, won for the third consecutive year.

In the elite women's race, Great Britain's Sonia Samuels crossed the line as the first British woman with a strong time. But, it was Ethiopia's Tigist Tufa who took the title crossing the finish line first, ahead of Kenya's 'fabulous four' including Mary Keitany (who finished in second) and Ethiopia's Tirfi Tsegaye, in third.

And in the men's race, it was a Kenyan top three as Eliud Kipchoge took pole position with Wilson Kipsang in second and Dennis Kimetto in third.

All those who lined the streets to cheer on Britain's favourite Paula Radcliffe had the show they hoped for as she finished her final London Marathon in 2:36:55.
