WEST Ham loanee Paul McCallum endured a nightmare debut with a red card as AFC Wimbeldon were shot down by Kevin Ellison at Morecambe this afternoon.
In a first half of few chances, Ellison out-paced the Dons defence to fire Morecambe in front just seven minutes in after latching onto a misplaced pass in the midfield.
Jack Midson responded with a weak shot at the end of a promising Dons move, before Jake Reeves should have done better with a shot from just inside the area which he put wide.
Instead, Ellison got his second on 31 minutes, finishing well from a tight angle on the right side of the area after Stewart Drummond's ball through from the middle caught the Dons defence out all too easily.
Boss Neal Ardley responded by bringing a third striker on in the shape of Charlie Strutton, but it was the hosts who looked more likely to extend their lead, Gary McDonald watching as his shot from outside the area bobbled just wide.
At the other end, a clever pass from Steven Gregory put in Midson and suddenly the Dons were four on two, but the striker's cross was cut out before it reached Paul McCallum.
Soon after, Gregory's teasing cross was cut out by Chris McCready with McCallum ready to pounce, before Jonathan Meades put a belter just wide as the visitors probed for a way back into the game.
That was exactly what they got on 65 minutes when Jordan Mustoe brought down Midson in the area, and the Dons striker smashed home the penalty high and true into the roof of the net.
Reeves then had one dangerous cross cut out before forcing home keeper Barry Roche into a fine stop from the rebound.
But just when it looked like AFC would find an equaliser, ill fortune struck at the other end as Callum McNaughton slipped trying to clear a routine through-ball on 78 minutes, letting in Ellison to complete his hat-trick with a fine finish.
To make matters worse, McCallum, having only joined on loan from West Ham a few days earlier, was harshly given a straight red for an elbow on Nick Fenton with eight minutes left, when little intent was there.
Roche saved well from Reeves as the clock ticked down, but it was too little too late for the Dons.
