Davis Haule could have been nearing the end of an illustrious top flight career now.

Instead, he is just happy to be playing regularly for Wealdstone, a club he believes are destined for the Ryman Premier play-offs.

The midfielder-cum-striker, 32, has spearheaded the Stones' attack since arriving from Staines Town in mid-November and is nearing the end of his third and final month on loan.

Despite having only found the net several times Haule has provided the perfect foil for several rookie striker partners in Greg Ngoyi, former loanee Marbin Sordell and versatile defender James Gray.

His presence has resulted in Gordon Bartlett's side winning the majority of their league games since he first came to Grosvenor Vale, including the home derby against one of his former sides, Hendon.

That day he provided the cross for Ngoyi to head home the equaliser before conceding a penalty that his younger brother, Brian, failed to convert.

Haule enjoyed plenty of good times with the Greens but is still irked by their steadfast refusal to accept a reasonable offer from Tottenham Hotspur for his services more than a decade ago.

Feeling robbed of his shot at the big time Haule packed his backs and headed for New Zealand where he played for North Shore United.

Haule said: "I had been training with Tottenham while I was at Hendon and the manager at the time, George Graham, wanted to sign me. But Hendon demanded more money for me and the deal fell through.

"I was 25 and that was my last chance to turn pro. I was very angry at the time as turning pro at that age would have been great. It was my last shot and it never happened."

Even so, Haule has experienced more than most non-league footballers and concedes he has been fortunate to travel around the globe on his own footballing odyssey.

In and around his time with several English clubs, including Peterborough United, Birmingham City, Wimbledon and Harrow Borough, Haule has also played for USA side Jacksonville Cyclones and Vidir IK of Finland.

After returning from America Haule joined Wembley before some impressive displays saw Wealdstone battle it out with Hendon for his signature.

He said: "Wealdstone came in for me just before Hendon did, but the Wembley chaiman vetoed the move. Ten years later I am finally playing for them."

And Haule is enjoying life at Grosvenor Vale. Frozen out at parent club Staines, he would favour a permanent move.

He commented: "It depends if they (Wealdstone) want me to stay. I like the place, the fans [2014] everyone has been terrific since I've been here.

"I don't know what the Staines situation is. I enjoy it there, but I just wasn't getting the games. I'll go wherever I'm wanted but I'm enjoying it here at the moment.

"Steve Cordery (Staines manager) is keen on the rotation policy, and there is a squad of 25 good players there at the moment. But at this stage of my career rotation is not the way to go for me. I don't know how many years I've got left to play and I want to make the most of the time I have left."

If Stones are to mount a serious challenge for promotion then they will need experienced campaigners through the spine of what is a young team, and Haule fits the bill.

Haule commented: "I think we can go up, no problem. We've played some good teams and been all over them this season, which shows we have a very good side."

If they do achieve that goal with Haule in tow, he should have won his wager with his brother, with whom he works as a Visa consultant for a City firm.

Haule Snr said: "I had to pay him £100 for scoring more goals than me last season. This time the loser gets to take the winner for a meal at Nandos. I'm coming closer to his goal tally this season and he's not happy about it."

Strike partner Ngoyi hopes Haule stays on at the Vale once his loan deal expires after being taken under the journeyman's wing.

The 21-year-old said: "I've become good mates with Davis and am learning a lot from him. He holds the ball up well and brings a wealth of experience. It would be nice if he was to stay but he has to do what is best for him."
