Wealdstone nearly man Byron Harrison and former Stones striker Richard Jolly put an end to their play-off chances as Carshalton Athletic ran riot at St George's Stadium on Saturday. Despite fantastic weather and a brilliant attendance – 735 – Stones collapsed while Athletic failed to read the script. This was not supposed to happen, it was not expected, yet the energy sapping schedule of recent weeks finally caught up with Gordon Bartlett's men on a nerve-shredding final day of the season.

Harrison, who was shown around Stones' ground earlier in the season as he pondered his next move after quitting Ashford Town, fired the visitors into a sixth minute lead before adding another after 20 minutes.

Former terrace favourite Jolly rubbed salt in the wounds with a typical cool finish past Sean Thomas before Greg Ngoyi grabbed a goal back for the shell-shocked Stones. However, Harrison sealed his hat-trick in the 30 th minute and Athletic shut up shop.

Stones finished the Ryman Premier season in sixth (65pts) with 17 wins, 14 draws and 11 defeats. They scored the same number of goals they conceded – 65.

Wealdstone: Thomas, McCoy, Chappell, Locke, Massey, Ashe, Logie, O'Leary, McClure, Ngoyi, Spendlove.
