Gordon Bartlett hailed his side's character after they dug deep to secure a vital win over stubborn Margate at St George's Stadium last night (Wednesday).
The clash was settled when Gate goalkeeper Jamie Turner allowed Lee Chappell's long range effort to squirm through his grasp after 63 minutes. The Stones are now up to seventh in the Ryman Premier League, five points behind fifth placed Hastings United but with games in hand on all the sides above them apart from leaders Dartford, who have also played 35 times.
Manager Bartlett said: "It is a very important three points and we deserved to win. The lads worked very hard and I have got to give them a lot of praise for the way they have responded to Monday's defeat (to Harrow Borough).
"Margate had a good first 20 minutes but, after that, we were on top and looked very good. It was a very close game but we had more energy last night than we have had for some time."
