Ron Leleux came through a marathon match to win the singles competition at the Hayes and District Bowls Finals weekend.

Dave Parrott of Rosedale Park over-came a slow start to level the contest at Hayes Bowls Club, but Uxbridge member finally won 21-18 after 31 ends, ending the match by putting the jack into the ditch.

Arthur Walker and his Denham team of Colin Jeffs, John Norkett and Bob Ashley defeated Court Park 23-9 to clinch the fours title, and Walker wrapped up a double when he and Ashley saw off Bob White (Hayes) 26-10 to add the pairs trophy.

The triples final also produced a nail-biting finish because, with one end to go, the match was tied at 15-15.

Walker was again involved with Norkett and Ashley and Denham edged out Cowley 17-15 to complete Walker's hat-trick.

The two Cuttell Shield matches between Rosedale Park and Court Park started with Rosedale leading, but Court Park started to catch them.

They clawed back three shots on the 12th and 14th ends but could not make much headway from then, as Rosedale skips Dave Parrott and Bob Mathews defeated A. Baldwin and Alec Dunn by six shots and four shots respectively.

Dennis Hodgkins, B. Smith, M. Kirby and R. Clark completed the winning team for Rosedale.

The trophies were presented by com-petition organiser Jim Ashton, while John Cope umpired on the first day of the finals and John Pead of Hayes stepped in as marker for the singles when Ashton was unable to do the job.
