FA CUP PRELIMINARY ROUND
Uxbridge 5  Stotfold 1

MATTY Woods bagged a hat-trick as Uxbridge stormed into the first qualifying round of this year’s FA Cup with a dominant performance against Stotfold at Honeycroft on Saturday.

Woods was on target to give the Reds the lead in the seventeenth minute after Craig Tomkins had cancelled out Stotfold’s  seventh minute opener, and capped a memorable performance with two second half goals to claim the match ball and give the score line an emphatic edge.

Uxbridge were unlucky to fall behind early on as a floated ball into the box from Ashley Fitton evaded everyone before dropping into the far corner, but a trip on Lewis Wallace by Adam Brown allowed Tomkins to restore parity from the spot.

Woods had Emmanuel Otira to thank for setting him up to give the Reds the lead and the game was effectively ended as a contest just after half time when Tomkins turned provider for Woods to grab his second of the afternoon.

Stotfold’s miserable afternoon was compounded when Jordan Gleghorn received his marching orders for dissent and the extra space afforded to Uxbridge enabled Kev Warner to volley home a fourth, before Woods capped the afternoon off with a delicate lob over George Darlow.

The Reds will be in buoyant mood when they return to league action tonight (Monday) against Potters Bar in Southern Division One Central before welcoming Egham Town on Saturday.

There was further success for Uxbridge with the reserves striking up a thumping 6-2 win over Camberley Town on Saturday following last Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with Cobham.
