HAYES and Yeading's survival prospects suffered a big blow tonight after they were brushed aside by relegation rivals County.

In truth, Justin Edinburgh's men looked nothing like Blue Square Premier relegation candidates, but they were aided by terrible defending from the hosts.

Nas Bashir's men contributed to their own downfall by conceding poor goals and it meant that County leapfrogged them in the table to leave Hayes and Yeading in 22 nd place.

Boss Bashir handed a trio of new players their home debuts with on-loan Fulham striker Corey Gameiro making his first start to join Callum Morris and Curtis Wynter in the starting line-up.

But the hosts were put on the back foot virtually from the first whistle and Newport danger-man Danny Rose got clean through after just a few minutes, but he dragged his shot wide of the goal.

In an attacking start from Edinburgh's men, Robbie Matthews then found Tom Doherty in space and stand-in Hayes goalkeeper Delroy Preddie was forced to palm his 20-yard strike away.

Preddie had to then get up quick to save another effort from Rose as County really went for it early on.

But the visitors did get what they deserved in the 22nd minute through Rose when he was left completely unmarked from a Sam Foley cross and he smashed home from inside the area.

Hayes and Yeading failed to really make an impression as an attacking force and they were stunned in the 38 th minute when Newport made it 2-0.

It was a goal of real quality too as Sam Foley latched onto a long ball from Rose and he produced an exquisite lob over the stranded Preddie.

But Newport's third goal was completely different as shocking marking in the box allowed Gary Warren a free header in the box from a Rose corner and Ismail Yakubu headed home from close range on the stroke of half-time.

Bashir had little option but to shake things up for the second-half and he made a double substitution with Tom Collins replacing Gameiro and Daniel Wishart on for James Folkes.

However, Doherty had a golden opportunity to make it 4-0 when Doherty went clean through, but he shot wide of the near post.

Hayes and Yeading struggled to gain any attacking momentum, but they at least finally tested Danny Potter in the home goal in the 62 nd minute when the Newport goalkeeper made a routine save from Louie Soares.

But County were celebrating a fourth in the 75 th minute when a long cross from Rose picked out Yakubu at the back post and he headed home from close range.

Hayes and Yeading: Preddie, Wynter, Cadmore, Owusu (Bettamer), Soares, Williams, Bentley, Gameiro (Collins), Folkes (Wishart), Morris, Ujah.
