MARCELLO Trotta was praised by Brentford boss Uwe Rosler for the manner in which he brushed off his Doncaster nightmare to play an important part in the play-off victory over Swindon.

Nine days after missing the last-gasp penalty which would have put Brentford in the Championship, the on-loan Fulham striker was recalled for the second leg of the play-off semi-final.

Trotta, who told the Chronicle last week he was determined to make up for his mistake, put in a fine performance and hit the post with one first-half effort.

Despite being booed by a minority of fans before the game, Trotta received a standing ovation when he was substituted and was having his name sung at the end.

Rosler said: “Marcello is such a young player who has gone through something a lot of older and more experienced players would have hidden from.

“The mental strength he shown is over and above his years. The last 10 days have seen Marcello become a man and will be a defining moment of his career.”
