THE 10th annual Hatch End Harrow Triathlon has been hailed as a roaring success by its hundreds of participants.

Harrow Arts Centre and Hatch End pool was a hive of activity on Sunday as competitors got their teeth into the event, which was organised by Jetstream Triathlon Club.

Clark Schofield of Hillingdon Triathletes was the overall men's winner, completing the 400m swim, 17km bike ride and 3km run in 46.52, almost two seconds ahead of Patrick Brown and three ahead of David Savory.

The Women's winner was Collete O'Neill, another Hillingdon member, in 54.27.

Anthony Anderson (Thames Turbo) and Orla Fawcett (Amersham Tristars) were the first male and female across the line in the Tristar 1 event in 15.47 and 17.30 respectively.

Harry Edwards (21.53) and Alice Hall (22.17) prevailed in the Tristar 2 while Luke Penney (25.30) and Harrow AC's teenage sensation Sky Draper (25.41) registered a one-two in the Tristar 3 race.

Overall youth race winners were Pavan Rooprai (31.24) and Daniela Raffel (34.27).

Debut triathlete Elaine Quinn said: “It was a brilliant day, well organised and there was such a good  atmosphere. I didn't stop smiling the whole day, it was thoroughly enjoyable.”

Michelle Ashwell and her two children took part. She said: “They both thoroughly enjoyed it and have asked to do another race as soon as possible, which is just fantastic.

“It was great to see so many kids racing and of such varying standards racing together on equal footing.

Yvette Johnston described it as a 'fantastic beginner friendly event' while Ray Dancer said it was a 'real fun event to take part in'.
