HARROW-BORN Richard Hounslow booked his place in Wednesday's Kayak (K1) semi-final with a solid performance at the Lee Valley White Water Centre today.

The 30-year-old  hit gate 13 and registered a time of 94.40 in the first run of the day but recovered with a time of 89.12 in the second to make it into the next stage of the competition.

There will be little respite for the Olympic debutant who is one of the first athletes to compete in both the men’s K1 and C2 classes as he teams up  up with Beijing silver medallist David Florence.

The duo will begin their campaign tomorrow (Monday) afternoon as the C2 heats are scheduled to take place at 1.30pm at Lee Valley.

Expectations will be high for the pair as Florence is currently ranked world number one and is looking to add to the silver medal he won in Beijing in 2008.
