BOWLS: Pride of place went to Phil Sutcliffe of Brentham BC on finals day for the Ealing & District men's Bowling Association.

He brought his number of Ealing & District singles titles up to 10 by beating John Cowlin of Ealing BC 21-6.

And it was Brentham's day overall as they made it a hattrick of titles at West Ealing Bowls Club in Mervyn Road.

They also won the Pairs and the Fours competitions. Alwyn Roberts and

Barry Burgess won the pairs in the morning, overcoming clubmates Alan Owen and Ray Hodges 21-16.

In the afternoon, Alan and Ray made up for their earlier loss by combining with Roger Weston and Alec Gibson in the Fours to overwhelm the Four of host club West Ealing - Terry Pettit, Lionel Singleton, Tom Creaby and Dick Cunningham - 22-4.

The Triples Final saw two Ealing Conservative BC teams do battle, with Mark Laws, Brian Roberts and Peter Newman beating Malcolm Britton, Ron Keeler and Malcolm Jones in the closest finish of the day.

With the last bowl of the match, Malcolm Britton was a fraction of an inch away from overturning the winning shot and had to settle for final score of 17-15 against.

Ealing & District President Martin Best oversaw a fine day of bowls on a fine green which climaxed with the inaugural District Mixed Pairs Competition.

The home West Ealing BC husband and wife team of Lu and Rob Green held off the Brentham pair of

Barry Burgess and Monica Gallagher to win 22-16.

It completes a fantastic hat-trick of wins in external competitions for Lu Green, who can add this title to those of Middlesex Triples Champion and Ealing & District Ladies Pairs Cham-pion won earlier this season.
