FARID El Alagui is desperate to make up for lost time and prove his worth at Brentford.

The former Falkirk frontman missed six months of last year with a serious knee injury and suffered a further setback in pre-season.

However, the Moroccan marksman, who is in the final 12 months of his contract, was back in action and back among the goals with a brace in Tuesday night's Capital One cup win against Dagenham.

And he's determined to show what he can do and help Brentford's promotion push.

“It's been a long road,” he said. “I had a bad time with injuries but you have to deal with it.

“It was difficult being away from my family, but everyone at the club has helped me along the way.

“I want to make up for lost time. I'm desperate to help out and have an impact this year to show to everybody I'm worthy of being here.”

El Alagui has slipped down the pecking order following the summer signings of Will Grigg and Conor McAleny.

However, the 28-year-old has welcomed the competition for places at Griffin Park.

He added: “We need a good season and competition for places will help that. If you don't have that you will struggle. It will bring out the best in everyone.

“All of the strikers here are different. We have different qualities and the gaffer will use us as and when he sees fit. When he calls me I've got to be ready.”

El Alagui will be hoping for a place on the bench for tomorrow's League One clash with Sheffield United.
